Welcome Dolphins!

Normally, we would use this space to highlight our achievements from the previous season. But, as you all know, there wasn't any 2020 swim season due to COVID-19. Things are improving, but we will still only have an abbreviated Sundance season this summer. Due to current Covid restrictions, our enrollment will be limited. Please fill out the registration paperwork and submit it, along with your payment, as soon as possible.  Swimmers will be taken on a first come first serve basis.

Also, due to Covid restrictions at UNM, we will not be practicing there this summer. We will be practicing at the McCleod Family (formerly Mountainside) YMCA, our original home for over 20 years!

About Us

This is the Home Page for the Dolphin’s Swim Team, a member of the Sundance Aquatic Association of Albuquerque.  The Dolphin’s Swim Team is a summer league team. Our 2021 season runs from Tuesday, June 1 through Saturday, July 17. We will be practicing at the McCleod Family YMCA (formerly Mountainside YMCA), located at Tramway and Comanche. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome. Google Maps Link Here

Dolphin's Swim Team

The best way to stay involved and up to date with the Dolphins is to join our Facebook group: Dolphins Swim Team.  This will provide you with the latest information. If you have any difficulty joining the group, please contact our head coach, Robert Wall at  coachrobert83@gmail.com. He will help you get set up

Spring Pot Luck

Our Informational Spring Pot Luck will be on Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 2:00pm - 4:00 pm at Holiday Park, located at 11710 Comanche Rd NE, 87111 (Google Maps Link). We will meet at the SW end of the park. You can park your car in the lot on the west side of the community center. Please bring a main dish, plus a salad or dessert to share. Everything else will be provided  (all paper products, drinks). You may want to bring a blanket to sit on as well as an umbrella or some sun-shade device, as it will be during the heat of the day.

The Program

All swimmers will learn excellent swimming techniques, along with self-discipline, respect, team building skills and good sportsmanship. We expect and encourage all of our swimmers to hold themselves to the highest standard of personal conduct, both in and out of the pool. We offer a high quality, competitive and fun swim program. We are a family centered team. As such, we offer lots of extra-curricular activities for both the swimmers and their families, such as hikes, ball games, movie nights, bowling nights, etc… We are currently accepting new swimmers of all ages and levels. Non-experienced swimmers are also encouraged to join. However, non-experience is different from “no experience”.  All participants should have at least one full summer of formal swim lessons (or the equivalent) before trying out for the team.
The Dolphins are a swim team, and although some of our coaches do offer private swim lessons, our mission, as a team, is to improve upon the already existing skills within each swimmer. As such, all participants must have a basic level of proficiency in order to join. This proficiency would be something as simple as demonstrating the ability to float on your back, demonstrate a standard flutter kick and demonstrate a basic crawl stroke or free-style technique. The traditional starting point for a non-experienced swimmer is the ability to make it across a standard diving well (approximately half a typical pool length – or 12 ½ yards). If you are not sure if your child is ready, our coaches will work with your child and assess their ability.

The Coaches

Our coaches serve as role models to all our swimmers, volunteering their time and their expertise.  Our head coach, Robert Wall, has been with the Dolphins exclusively for over 30 years. He is the longest serving head coach with the Sundance organization. The Dolphin’s coaching staff offers strength through experience, dedication and continuity.

Practices

The first practice will begin on Tuesday, June 1. 2021, from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. We will practice every evening, Monday through Friday.

There will be no morning practice sessions this summer.
Swimmers should plan to arrive by 6:30pm, with running shoes (no flip-flops!), for stretching, running and general warm-up. Swimmers should wear their swim suits under their clothes, so they can go straight from the warm-up and into the pool.

Parking

There will be no charge for parking in the YMCA parking lot this summer.

Pool Location & Directions

We will practice at the McCleod Family YMCA, located on the SW corner of Tramway Blvd and Comanche.

Membership Fees

The regular summer membership fee for the Dolphin’s Swim Team this year will be $150 per swimmer. We do offer a multi-child discount (10%) as well as a military discount (10%).

If you are a non-military family, the fee for your first child will be $150; all subsequent children will be $135 each.  If you are a military family, your first child would be $135; all subsequent children will be $121.50 each.

The Dolphins offer a flexible payment option which allows families to make smaller payments over a longer period of time. Due to the abbreviated season and reduced membership fees, no scholarships will be available this summer.

There are links to all registration and payment forms at the top of the page.

The Dolphin’s Swim Team will make every effort to offer financial assistance to any family requesting such assistance, but our resources are limited.

Registration Forms

All financial assistance forms should be turned in with the Dolphin Registration, the Waiver of Liability form and Medical Release forms, as well as the Sundance Registration form.  All these forms can be found at the top of the page. All forms must be completed and signed before your child can swim. You can scan and email these forms to Kim Berling at berling.k@gmail.com, or you can bring them to any swim practice.  If you have any questions or concerns, you can also contact Tiffany Hagarty at 505-369-9444 or email her at tiff1116@icloud.com.

Deadlines

Enrollment will be limited this year.

Ideally, we would like to receive all forms by or before our Spring Pot Luck, which will be held on Sunday, May 23 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Holiday Park.  Swimmers will be enrolled on a first come, first serve basis.  All forms must be completed and turned in by or before Friday, June 4, 2021.   Forms received after Friday June 4 will be subject to a $20.00 late fee.

Payment

Membership fees are due at the time of registration, unless you are applying for a payment plan. All flexible payment plans require a 25% down payment which should be made at the time of registration.

If you are not paying your membership fees in full at the time of registration, you must submit a completed Flexible Payment Plan form, along with your 25% down payment. No exceptions!

Enrollment is limited. Only those swimmers with all their paperwork and payments (or payment plan forms) completed will be enrolled.

Fall & Winter Swimming

Sundance by-laws prohibit any Sundance team from offering any sort of swimming programs or clinics between the last day of regular season and the first day of the following season. However, there is no prohibition against Sundance swimmers participating in supplemental swimming programs during the off-season, as long as they are not sponsored by a registered, Sundance team.
Dolphin team members who are interested in a Fall & Winter swim program are encouraged to contact Sonic Swimmers.  Sonic Swimmers is a private swim club which is not affiliated with any other swimming organization, including, but not limited to, USA Swimming and Sundance Swimming.  The purpose of the Sonic Swimmers is to provide non year-round swimmers with the opportunity to improve their swimming skills during the off-season.

Sonic Swimmers will be practicing at UNM Johnson Pool between September 2021 and February 2022. They will meet twice each week: Tuesday mornings, from 6:00 am – 7:00 am, and Friday evenings, from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.  The cost of the program is $150.00 per swimmer for the 6 month period. Registration and payment are due by September 1st.   Because this is a private, non-Sundance and non-Dolphin swim club, all interested participants will need to contact the club directly to arrange registration and payment.  Contact Kim Berling at 505-410-3646, or berling.k@gmail.com for more information. You can also contact our team mom, Tiffany Hagarty at 505-369-9444 or tiff1116@icloud.com
